I'm thinking about getting a wine rack for my basement or a wine cooler. However, is it bad to chill wine for long periods of time if you don't plan on opening it anytime soon? Or does it not matter either way?|||A wine cooler simply keeps the wine at a constant temperature and humidity - I keep the one in my kitchen at around 17 degrees. Wine needs to be kept somewhere humid to prevent the corks drying out and tainting the wine.
With white wines it doesn't matter so much if you chill them for a while, but they won't develop their aged flavours. If you do chill the wine, don't then take it out of cold storage until you drink it, as some wines will form a white haze - which doesn't really affect the flavour, but doesn't look pleasant.|||The location should have good humidity and a temperature around 55 degrees.
Store with the wine touching the cork so the cork will not dry out.
.|||If you are talking storage, keep it in the basement, out of the light, and dry. Make sure it is laying on its side, and try not to move them very much.
In the cooler go the whites you will drink over the next two weeks, or the reds you will drink in the next 5-7 days.|||dry place, bottle laying down

and wet....85 %|||Best to just store them in a cool, dark place (eg. basement or cupboard under the stairs!) then, for red wines, open 45 minutes before drinking to allow to come to room temperature and 'breathe', and for white wines put in the fridge a few hours before serving.
