What sort of wine certifications are most respected in the industry?

I am not in the wine biz but may get into it at some point. I want to get some serious wine education and am trying to determine which makes the most sense?|||Wine? I am not so sure. But I can search and present a few that may want to further research. Go to retail outlets and nice restaurants and talk with the managers/sommelier.

Cornell (Ivy League School) long known for the coursework in wine tasting in its Resaturant and Hotel management degree is now going to wine making. They will always be behind UCD in this area.

These just serve as examples for you to further research your goals.

Good luck.|||Do you want to make it or sell it?

Start by reading wine websites, wine books from book store (get a coffee or water and read) and drink, drink, drink.

I was in the wine industry (sales), and I drank wines from every region in the world.

Its still an on going passion, because you can never learn too much.

Every region has their own taste, start with your local area and country, then explore the world, section by section.

California wines are awesome, so are South American and the coup de gras, France.

Some community colleges offer wine courses, and the more serious ppl go to Cali or Fance and work at a vineyard for a season.

I drink, keep notes in a journal, (remove the labels, and save them too. you can get a special super sticky tape on line, or soak the bottle overnight ), and describe what I like and don't like about the wine.

Learn about the wine speak descriptions, is it berry like, leathery, oaky, smokey...

Have fun with it... Try wine and food

Go to Fetzer.com , they have wonderful programs about food/wine pairing. And they have a school as well|||botany

agriculture science

business

chemistry

Wine snobs will talk about long apprenticeships and decades of hard work.

Bull !!

Find a good recipie and experiment. Every winery does the same thing. Make small batches and hope for the best. Wine has very little to do with being certified by some group. Every winery is supposed to think their wine is the best.

Try a few classes on distilling, and give it a shot. If you can make a decent product, then give it a go.
